NYC - Summer Streets

I don't know who comes up with these ideas, but they deserve praise. Street closings are a part of life in NYC, but you usually don't get to run on them. The privilege belongs to the parade or race participants.

Not on Summer Streets. NYC DOT closes Park Avenue from 72nd all the way down to the Brooklyn Bridge for 6 hours (7AM to 1PM) three consecutive Saturdays (Aug 6, 13, 20) and invites people to play.

I was out of town last week, but I managed to participate in this week's festivities. Highlights include REI Adventure Zone and Whole Foods Street Picnic. Also, Grand Central looks beautiful when you are running towards it.

Make sure to include Park Avenue on your long run next week. Or walk, bike, skate...
