This was my first shorter distance Spring NYRR run. It was obvious from the get-go that congestion would be a problem and that it was. Here is a tip for those who are doing a similar race. Don't start on the left side. In the first mile the right side provides ample escape room, while on the left side you have to wait for slower runners (especially if you are in a corral slower than your pace). So, I spent a good two miles of the race sprinting into openings and then slowing down. Not the best strategy.
I finished at 33:47 (Ganbare!). Pretty good for my standards. Hopefully NYRR will bump me up to a different color bib for the next run. I have worn the Pink long enough!
For those who are interested. The actual Japan Day in on May22. We were told that there would be robot fights and a visit from Hello Kitty. (So, something both for boys and the girls!)
And also. You can still signup for the virtual walk/run event organized by the NYRR to raise funds for Japan. You just have to run 4 miles at your convenience and post your result. This race also counts as an NYC Marathon qualifier. So, pretty sweet deal.
Thank you NYRR, thank you volunteers, thank you Japan Day Inc for a great race and congratulations to those who have run and finished.
