Telomerase interacts with Wnt signalling

This was unexpected. A paper in Nature shows that telomerase, the enzyme responsible for repairing the chromosome ends, interacts with the Wnt pathway.

This is significant, of course, since telomerase is known to be expressed in a vast majority of cancers. It was believed that fast dividing tumor cells needed telomerase to repair their telomeres, which otherwise would get shorter after every division, eventually resulting in genomic instability and cell death. Involvement of telomerase with a major signaling pathway, which also is implicated in certain types of cancer, will change things a bit.
